Preston Beach
Details
Take off on a 4WDing safari between Preston Beach and Whitehills Beach. There’s over 20kms of classic WA beach scenery to explore on these beaches, which are the closest to Perth city that you are legally allowed to beach 4WD!
Preston Beach is a gorgeous beach just over an hour away from Perth. Head south down the Kwinana Freeway, which eventually joins onto Forrest highway. Just after it meets the Old Coast Road, turn off to the right. Preston Beach is open to four wheel drives, well known for good fishing and has a range of accommodation options.
You can 4WD both north and south enjoying an endless sweep of clean beach. From the north, you can access the beach at Tim’s Thicket (when the tide is up) or White Hills, and drive all the way south to Preston, Myalup, Binningup and then exit at Buffalo road. The beach can be reasonably soft at times (that’s nature!) so deflate your tyres before entering the sand. 4WDing is only permitted on the beach; access to the dunes is prohibited and this includes sandboarding.
Only 4WD vehicles licensed for the road are permitted to use the beach; no motorbikes, four wheelers or dune buggies. There are toilets here, a gas cooker permitted, but please no other fires and no camping and take your rubbish out with you.
